Abstract

The research is the result of a doctoral thesis that focused on the development of Historical Thinking in initial teacher training in Costa Rica. In the article we analyze the Historical Thinking and learning experiences of students of Universidad Nacional. Despite research in historical thinking and initial training, in Costa Rica we don’t have research about history learning in School and how these learnings are used to critically analyze the past. In our research, we also studied the experiences in Social Studies in High School in order to analyze the narrative in history. The study was carried out through the model of concepts of Historical Thinking by Peter Seixas with students who began the degree in 2019. The methodology was qualitative, and the data was collected with a Workshop with the students and a Questionnaire with open and closed questions through the techniques of Grounded Theory. It is concluded that the teachers in training begin the career with an historical thinking which is an advantage to develop the historical thinking.
