Research as a teaching resource to train teachers in historic thinking competencies

Abstract

This article collects the achieved results in a research developed by the student body in their learning process of Primary Education degree of the Universidad de Córdoba (year 2018-2019). The main objective was the design and performance of a teaching innovative practice that would allow the quality improvement of the Social Science contents, in History as well as in Geography, by the usage of documentary sources: The Ensenada Cadastre General Answers (Córdoba) and a map from 1752. Moreover, the inclusion of the cartographic tool Google Map with the aim to develop geographic and digital competencies. In order to stablish valid conclusions that collected students’ perceptions about the implemented innovation two questionnaires were prepared with open and close questions. The results of these concluded that most students reacted positively towards the innovation as a result of the primary sources, the handling of digital resources and especially the environment as a teaching action. To sum up, the student body considered, after participating in the activity, to have widen their knowledge, in historic time as their capacity to think historically about their city.
