Abstract

The formative value of the study of the landscape and its educational praxis are not a totally new idea or action since they have been recognized and developed especially during the last century and a half. In the early days of this course, the work of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and within it the figure of Giner de los Ríos represent a landmark in our country and especially in the innovative practice of excursions. The treatment of the landscape as an educational subject is a complex process that requires consideration as a real object, the landscape as a science; as a social product, as a culture; and also the landscape as an experience, as a subjective representation, as a feeling. Dimensions that the ILE, Giner de los Ríos and his students collected in the experiences of the landscape through excursions, itineraries and field trips, teaching to look and recognize, to think and to feel.
